Citrix Online Research Report Sample

Globalization and advances in technology present extraordinary opportunities for organizations, but they also invite brand-new security concerns. IT managers will tell you that it’s not just the security of the corporate network back at the office that keeps them up at night — it’s the army of laptops loaded with sensitive data and then issued into a world full of airports, late-night taxis and busy satellite offices. Citrix Online recently conducted a comprehensive survey on the subject of remote access and security to find out how organizations are (or aren’t) safeguarding critical information and systems as remote workers head into the world armed with their laptops.

Today’s headlines are steeped in reports of stolen or misplaced laptops and the subsequent fallout from compromised confidential data. While the missing laptop in and of itself is an unfortunate occurrence, the often-related security breach is something that could easily be avoided. Simply put, if confidential data isn’t on the laptop to begin with, there’s no data to compromise.

We asked survey respondents to identify devices that were likely to contain unprotected confidential data. According to the results, laptops and USB storage devices are items that house the most unsecured data, weighing in at 40 percent for laptops and 28 percent for USB storage devices. Thirty-five percent of respondents also identified desktops as part of this group. Desktops, of course, are far less mobile than laptops and storage devices.
