Directory interoperability is the basis of identity interoperability. Directories contain the structure and content that often provides the raw material for identity. The future of the Internet and enterprise networks will be shaped by a comprehensive and interoperable framework for identity.

Microsoft and Novell are focusing on ways to improve interoperability between office productivity applications. Novell is cooperating with Microsoft and others on a project to create bi-directional open source translators for sharing word processing, spreadsheet and presentation documents between OpenOffice.org and Microsoft Office.
