Implications for Storage
Virtualization’s broad embracement and adoption has significant impact on storage. As this new architecture becomes more widely used, organizations must address several pointed issues related to matching and marrying storage to server environments.
Provisioning: A major benefit of server virtualization is that
new virtual machines can be set up with very little effort. Users do not have to spend days (or weeks) to configure a physical server, loading it with an operating system, drivers, and applications. Instead, a virtual machine can be created, installed, and set to run in minutes.
Storage solutions used in conjunction with highly virtualized
environments therefore must offer fast storage provisioning to match the server provisioning capabilities in a virtualized environment.
