Technology Brief

Description:
Most organizations preparing for a deployment of a virtualization solution will spend a significant amount of time looking at the server impact of virtualization, but not at the impact on the storage and backup fabric. Read this technology brief to learn more about the SAN Readiness Assessment for Server Virtualization, a tool that conducts an analysis of the factors that affect the success of a virtualization platform as it relates to the storage and/or backup network.

Hewlett-Packard Technology Brief Sample

If you are like most organizations, you are planning a virtualization deployment or planning to expand your existing virtualization environment. Generally, when preparing for a deployment of a virtualization solution, customers spend significant effort looking at the server impact of virtualization only: CPU, memory, network, application, etc. Often, the impact on the storage and backup fabric(s) are not considered nearly as important or may get overlooked entirely.

The HP SAN Readiness Assessment for Server Virtualization (HP SRASV) conducts an analysis of the factors that affect the success of a virtualization platform as it relates to the storage and/or backup network. Data is collected from the existing storage area network (SAN) environment through a variety of methods to capture current utilization levels and identify possible problem areas or areas for improvement. The findings are then reviewed with the customer to highlight any hidden issues or potential improvements, and help with planning the successful fulfillment of their virtualization goals.
