Case Study

Description:
The Elections Office works year round to prepare for election days, relying on a support staff of temporary workers to help ensure proper and timely voting. A change to electronic voting machines required an increase in workers with technical skills. They responded by creating a mobile workforce of field technicians responsible for the proper function of all technology in the polling places. But old ways of communicating with the techs, using paper orders, maps and two-way radios, proved too cumbersome to work with the larger team. The Elections Office needed a new way to effectively manage this group. The Elections Office had a vision of how the field techs could be connected to the in-office staff, but didn’t have an immediate solution. When presented with the situation, AT&T suggested taking a day-in-the-life ride with one of the technicians to see firsthand what the operations required. “AT&T had the readiness and willingness to address our field technology needs,” said Dougherty.

The recommendation? TeleNav Track from AT&T running on Blackberry Bold smartphones to give the Elections Office flexibility, support and control. After seeing what it could do, the Elections Office chose to implement the program to streamline management of its mobile field technicians. “TeleNav is hosting the database and AT&T is providing the smartphones with the application loaded and running on the AT&T mobile broadband network,” said Dougherty. “It can’t get much easier than that.”
