Gartner Case Study Sample
In this report we examine how the U.S. Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) solved application performance problems that resulted from server consolidation. As organizations centralize and consolidate application servers, IT departments must include time and budget for network upgrades that go beyond increasing bandwidth.
Key Findings
- Although server consolidation may reduce operational costs and improve data security, it often causes performance problems that make users frustrated about the applications they may be using across a wide-area network (WAN), and about IT.
- Upgrading network infrastructure to compensate for problems that will be induced by "chatty" protocols operating over long distances before servers are consolidated can prevent application performance problems and avoid end-user complaints and objections to the consolidation.
