The VMware View 3 VDI solution is simpler and quicker to deploy than MIcrosoft's VDI solution. VMware provides more comprehensive and efficient storage and memory management to reduce the hardware investment. The Microsoft VDI soltuion combines multiple utilities which were not specifically developed for VDI and which considerably increase the complexity of the VDI enviornment. Microsoft VDI supports Windows 7 for virtual desktops, but requires the use of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 end-to-end to realize the full benefits of its VDI implementation, while VMware View 3 does not impose such requirements.
