A social media system is a platform for the creation, exchange, and fast dissemination of user-generated content, in the forms of microblogging, content sharing, and multimedia applications. While the social media platform has allowed businesses to more efficiently collaborate and reach customers, unrestricted access can result in data leaks, damage to the corporate image, and even financial losses.
Given that 69% of all organizations we interviewed allow access to social media sites, but only half of those have an official access policy, it’s clear that many organizations have not conducted the appropriate risk-benefit trade-off analysis between the need to maintain security postures and the desire to leverage the latest Internet capabilities.
