Evaluator Group assessed Quantum’s DXi6000 data deduplicating backup appliances in November and December 2010, and January 2011. The evaluation was both qualitative and quantitative, evaluating the usability of the system along with measurable performance oriented testing. Quantum’s DXi6000 products include the DXi6700 VTL along with five DXi6500 NAS systems. The systems were evaluated for read and write performance, and functionality and usability were also tested.

Backup operations that wrote data and restorations that read data from the DXi systems were both performed. Testing found the Quantum DXi6000 products were able to attain high performance quickly, while running only a few concurrent backup jobs. Testing also showed that restorations occurred at nearly the same speed as backup operations, restoring deduplicated data quickly from both recent and older backup jobs.
