Summary: We were pretty excited when we received our review kit from Intel, which consisted of the D975XBX motherboard and the Pentium Extreme Edition 955 processor. We wondered if going to 65nm would help Intel`s Prescott core. But when we installed the new CPU and booted it up, we watched the thermal monitor in the system BIOS in aghast as the processor temperature started at 89° C, climbed rapidly to 103° C, whereupon the system promptly shut down.
