And yet many IT consolidation projects suffer from poor planning and implementation issues that ultimately impact application performance and user productivity. In 2010, 52% of mid--‐size (i.e., less than 1,000 employees) and enterprise (i.e., more than 1,000 employees) organizations will increase IT spending. This is a significant increase from 2009, when only 43% of organizations planned to increase IT spending during the global recession. While these organizations have a long list of priorities, ESG research indicates that many will increase their use of server virtualization, upgrade their network infrastructure, continue to consolidate data centers, invest in BC/DR programs, and implement desktop virtualization.
